Be a better worker -- take a vacation

By not using your holiday time, you're putting your health, productivity at risk
Photo: relaxationEverybody dreams of sitting on a beach chair on a hot summer day sipping a fruity drink, but when you snap out of it you realize there is a major project due and that you can’t take time off to go to the beach.

Most people think about the fact that when you come back from a holiday you still want to have a job.

A staffing firm, Right Management, surveyed about 501 employees in North American about their vacation times.  The survey found 67% did not take a vacation.

Forbes has ranked Canada as the fourth hardest-working country in the world.

Expedia’s vacation deprivation survey found in 2009 24% of Canadians did take all of the vacation days and 42% of respondents feel vacation deprived.

Experts say vacation time is important to an employee’s long-term health and happiness.  Studies show that people who do not take their vacation time increase their chances of death and developing heart disease.

Overtime if one goes without taking a vacation it can lead to burnout and increased stress. Vacations allow people to relax and recharge mentally and physically.
