Lack of sleep leads to early death, study showsStudy shows the significance of too
little and too much sleep.
According to a study conducted in the U.K. people who get less than 6 hours of sleep
increase their risk of premature death. However, getting too much sleep (more than 9
hours of sleep) is just as bad. Too much sleep can be an indicator of a health condition. The researchers state that over time your body will go through small changes and eventually these small changes will make you more likely to develop disease. The study found those who slept less than 6 hours were 12% more likely to die prematurely. Those who slept too much did so because of an unnoticed medical condition and that was a risk factor on its own for premature death. When we do not get enough sleep our physiological processes are thrown off and this can cause obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. So what is the right amount of sleep that we should be getting? Researchers involved in the study recommend consistently sleeping 6 to 8 hours per night for optimal health.
