Shun the Sun to Reduce Skin Cancer Risk

Outdoor workers exposed to sun at high risk for skin cancer

While most of us are stuck in the office all day long, some employees consider the outdoors their workplace. For lifeguards, linesmen, drivers and many others, there is a downside to working outside all day: being exposed to the sun for extended periods of time means an increased chance of developing skin cancer.

The peak time for risk is between 12pm to 2pm, when the sun's rays are the strongest. Skin cancer can be prevented if you protect yourself from the sun.

Here are some tips:

  • Reduce your exposure to sun, especially from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Wear protective clothing and sunglasses.
  • Wear sunscreen that protects you from UVA and UVB
  • Monitor your skin for any unusual changes
