Creative Work SpacesEnhancing the workplace environment.
As you all know, pixcode
and naturalhealthcare.ca are moving to a new office space. In terms of setting up this new office space to
be greener, the possibilities are endless! One of the ideas that have come up is turning the rooftop of our new office space into a garden. Currently the rooftop does not have any supportive structures around the perimeter of the rooftop so having people up there is not a possibility yet. The building owner is having someone look into the structural concerns regarding this initiative. In a point in time where most workplaces consist of employees who are tied to their desk, workplace gardens allow for a place where employees can relax and take in nature. It can also be a place where employees can go to if they want to change location in order to help them solve a problem at work. A rooftop garden also may be a place during summers where office staff can hold one-on-one meetings. Other reasons workplace gardens are beneficial are that may be therapeutic. Studies have shown that digging, planting, and weeding are good for our health. Employees can take it upon themselves to start and maintain the garden. “Rooftop vegetation is a bonus, helps to mitigate the urban heat island created by the density of tall buildings and concrete, so building cooling and heating systems become more energy-efficient”, says architect Peggy Chiu.
