Employees happy but feel workplaces inefficient

Survey reveals employees` thoughts on their organization.
A new survey, Towers Perrin’s Workplace Watch, has found that employees are generally happy, but see their workplaces as inefficient.

The survey was conducted using online questionnaire.  About 610 000 employees were polled across the globe in 69 organizations.  It was conducted April 2009 through June 2009.

The world-wide study for the second quarter of 2009, finds that 58% of employees surveyed believe that their organization's current structure makes conducting business efficient.  This percentage has decreased by 16 percentage points from this year’s first quarter.

Approximately 73% of employees surveyed feel their organization works continually to make sure processes “are efficient as possible”, a decrease of 81 percentage points from this year’s first quarter.

There are several factors that have caused employees to change their perceptions.

First, many organizations have not been promoting their efficiency to employees.

Secondly, many employees feel underutilized in their organizations.

Lastly, with management undergoing restructuring many organizations are not re-allocating jobs and in turn decision are not being made at the senior level, resulting in less efficient workplaces.

The survey found that employee morale is high contrary to the findings above. About 63% of respondents said that they were able to balance work and their personal lives, an increase from 55% in the first quarter.

The survey also found that employees are in support of their organizations.  Approximately 87% said they support their organization's values, and 84% say they feel proud to be associated with their organization.

Only 12% report they are considering leaving their firm, though 21% say it would not take a lot for them to seek other employment.
